Registration & Fees
$1,575.00* per person. This fee includes completion and scoring of the pre-test and post-test, 2 days of instruction by Expert Leaders, and all training materials for participants.
An Early Bird rate of $1,260 will be available. Early Bird deadline is July 1, 2021.

Master Trainer Certification is a multi-step process that begins with submission of the online Application Form on or before the Registration Deadline of August 17, 2021. Once your application is received, you will be immediately redirected to the online pre-test, which tests your basic knowledge of the core tenets of the Best Friends™ approach. Please be prepared to take the pre-test when submitting your application (allow approximately 20–30 minutes to complete both steps). Because this is a master-level training, attendees are required to score 80% or above on the pre-test. If you have worked in a care setting following Best Friends practices or read The Best Friends Approach to Dementia Care or other Best Friends books, you should be comfortable with the topics on this pre-test.
Applicants who pass the pre-test will receive confirmation and an invoice for the registration fee. Payment is due within 10 days of invoice date or by the registration deadline, whichever comes first. Registration will not be complete until payment has been received. Your place at the Institute is not reserved until all steps of the registration are completed. All registrations will be confirmed by e-mail.

The Westin La Paloma Resort is located on the edge of the Sonoran Desert, in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, home of Saguaro National Park. Resort features include five outdoor pools with waterfalls and cabanas, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and the Mynd Spa. Complimentary onsite parking is also available. A limited number of rooms at the Westin La Paloma Resort have been reserved for this event at a discounted rate for September 12−16. These are available on a first come, first served basis until August 30, 2021. Reservations can be made by phone (mention Best Friends Master Training) or online using the custom Master Training event link (click here). The rate is $139/night for a single/double room with two queen or one king bed, plus a discounted resort fee of $10/day (does not include applicable state and local taxes, surcharges, parking, or other incidental fees). If you wish to extend your stay, the discounted rates also apply for 3 days prior to and 3 days after the block dates based on availability. Reservations made after August 30, 2021, are subject to availability and the prevailing commercial rates. Room cancellations can be made without penalty up to 3 days before arrival. Guests who cancel within 72 hours of arrival or who check out early will be charged a one-night penalty.
The Westin La Paloma Resort is served by Tucson International Airport (TUS), which is 16 miles from the hotel (approx. 30 minutes by taxi or rideshare). Attendees are responsible for the arrangements and cost for their accommodations and transportation.

Deadlines & Cancellations
Early Bird and Other Discounted Rates
An Early Bird rate of $1,260 is available for any application received by 11:59 pm PT on July 1, 2021. Early Bird rates will become invalid if payment is not received by your invoiced payment deadline. You will be re-invoiced at the full Institute rate and your space at the Institute will not be guaranteed until payment is received in full. A discounted rate of $1,339 is available for companies sending 3 or more attendees or who have existing Master Trainers.

Should you be unable to attend the Institute after registering, you must notify HPP no later than August 17, 2021, via mail, fax, or email in order to receive a 75% credit (or refund if already paid in full). Applicants registered for attendance who need to cancel on or before August 17, 2020 remain responsible for 25% of the registration fee to cover costs associated with pre-test administration and materials preparation; if not already pre-paid, applicants will be invoiced for this processing fee. Registrants who cancel after the cancellation deadline or are no-shows will be held responsible for the full amount of their registration fee.
Although no credits or refunds will be available after August 17, 2021, organizations may choose to send qualified substitutes, pending HPP approval and space permitting. Substitutes must:
- Submit a completed application to HPP, and
- Pass the qualifying pre-test, and
- Receive approval from HPP for attendance at least 5 business days in advance of the Institute
Health Professions Press reserves the right to cancel the training and will inform registrants by July 12. In such event, full refunds of the registration fee will be issued; HPP will not refund for expenses above the cost of registration.
Health Professions Press reserves the right to substitute speakers and/or reschedule the Institute due to unforeseen circumstances. Advance notice will be provided to the extent possible.
